Laurence Cummings Baroque SS

Our distinguished and much loved director of the Baroque Summer School, Professor Peter Holman, has announced his retirement after the Baroque Summer School of 25 July – 1 August 2021, after more than 25 years’ association with Cambridge Early Music. We shall miss him very much but we are thrilled to announce the appointment of Laurence Cummings (pictured) as the new Baroque Summer School Director from Summer 2022 onwards.

Laurence Cummings is one of Britain’s most exciting and versatile exponents of historical performance both as conductor and harpsichord player. He has been Musical Director of the London Handel Festival since 1999 and Artistic Director of the Internationale Händel-Festpiele Göttingen since 2012, as well as acting as Music Director for Orquestra Barroca Casa da Musica Porto. He is the William Crotch Professor of Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music and remains a trustee of the Handel House Museum. Cummings has been also appointed the new music director of the Academy of Ancient Music, effective from the 2021/22 season.
