La Serenissima, the “most serene republic of Venice”, is also the name of one of Britain’s best-loved chamber orchestras. Specialising in the music of Vivaldi and his contemporaries, expect a performance that’s “nothing short of magnificent” (Gramophone).

La Serenissima celebrated 30 years of “whipping up a storm with Vivaldi” (The Telegraph) during 2024-25 with a residency in London’s iconic Wigmore Hall. They return to Cambridge with music by Brescianello, Corelli, Vivaldi & Zavateri under the direction of violinist Adrian Chandler.

Published in Amsterdam over 300 years ago, Vivaldi’s Opus 8 makes up the keystone of this concert: “Be prepared to be enthralled by the energy and audacity of this version” (BBC Music Magazine).

Programme:

Vivaldi Concerto VI in C Il Piacere
Zavateri Concerto XII in G La tempesta di mare
Corelli Sinfonia in D
Brescianello Sinfonia Suite in C minor
Vivaldi Concerto X in B flat La Caccia
Vivaldi Concerto XI in D

Here are some taster videos for the above composers :-

Brescianello – Ouverture-Suite in C for Strings & Continuo: Hornpipe

Zavateri – Introducione in G for Strings & Continuo, i. Largo e spicco, Allegro assai

Vivaldi – Cello Cam: Violin Concerto in B Flat major, ‘The Posthorn’: i. Allergo
