Meet Owain Park, Director of The Gesualdo Six

The Gesualdo Six will open our new concert season on 27 September with a tour of Cambridge village churches. Here, Owain tells us more about the concerts.

“Our first two programmes are closely linked, exploring music that travelled: across borders and across time. At St Andrew’s Church in Girton, we sing of England’s voice abroad: Byrd, Tallis, and the echoes they left behind. Then, from Reformation to Renaissance, English music found its mirrors in Europe. In Fulbourn, we retrace those steps, exploring polyphony woven with purpose and devotion.

“Later in the day, we turn to the music of two Renaissance giants. Five centuries on, Palestrina’s music still glows. In Fen Ditton we present a selection of his luminous sacred and secular works. And as dusk deepens in Grantchester, we turn to Gesualdo: madrigals and motets of fire, dissonance, and stark beauty.

“We are delighted to return to Cambridge, where we gave our very first concerts, and to continue our relationship with Cambridge Early Music for this voyage of architectural and musical discovery!”
