TENET Vocal Artists
New York-based vocal ensemble, TENET, visit Cambridge on their debut tour of the UK, celebrating the 450th birth anniversary of much-praised Welsh composer Thomas Tomkins. Mostly known for his sacred, consort, and keyboard music, TENET will offer a portrait of Tomkins’s long life – filled with extreme highs and lows – as he lived through tumultuous times that included plague, wars, and courtly drama that shaped his craft as a composer.
The programme includes vocal and organ works by Tomkins and his contemporaries including William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and Orlando Gibbons.
This engagement is supported in part by Mid Atlantic Arts through USArtists International, a program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
