This year’s Baroque Summer School features an exciting new element! Dancers and musicians alike are invited to explore new perspectives in the realisation and performance of a baroque repertoire which is largely based upon dance.

Baroque dance, the rhythmic forerunner of classical ballet, hip hop and modern dance, combines the grandeur of Versailles, the extemporaneous moves of street dance and the magic which is 18thc theatre. With both elegant and comic facets, Henry Purcell’s semi-opera The Fairy Queen is the perfect vehicle for audiences and participants to savour a rich musical history and experience the delights of producing a true ensemble piece to delight audiences and participants alike. Students will have the opportunity to work with adynamic new faculty including, for the first time, an inspirational dance specialist whose research and expertise is inspiring musicians to look afresh at the dance music which is at the heart of the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire.
