St Catharine's College
Our 2020 course will be held at St Catharine's College, one of the 31 constituent colleges of the world-famous University of Cambridge. St Catharine's College was founded in 1473 by Robert Woodlark. Undergraduates were not admitted to St Catharine's until the 16th century, and at the beginning of the 17th century, it was still one of the smallest Colleges in Cambridge. However, a series of outstanding Masters and generous benefactors were to change its fortunes.
In 2013 the College completed the building of a new lecture theatre, College bar and JCR in Chapel Court. Named the McGrath Centre, the new building has greatly enhanced the College's public spaces. Teaching rooms and accommodation (half-board) for participants is provided in College. There are both single rooms with shared bathrooms (between 5-6 people) as well as en-suite rooms (single and double, limited availability).
St Catharine's College is located on Trumpington Street in the City Centre with shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs within a 5-minute walk
The College website is at www.caths.cam.ac.uk
Please note: none of the ensuite rooms are accessible bedrooms, nor are any on the ground floor but some can be accessed by lift. The College has some ground floor standard bedrooms on the main site but most have step access. If you have any physical requirement, please check the college accessibility guide via this link.
Cambridge is easily reached by air via Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or Cambridge airports. Bus services run from all airports, and train services from Heathrow and Gatwick; the fast train takes about an hour from London (King's Cross or Liverpool Street). Car traffic and parking are severely restricted in Cambridge and St Catharine's College does not have any car parking space available. More travel information and course details will be sent to all successful applicants in June. A map of Cambridge may be found at www.cam.ac.uk/map
The university publishes a map of central Cambridge and the University; or see GoogleMaps or streetmap.co.uk.
All meals will take place either in the College Hall or in the cafeteria. Breakfast is provided for residents. Lunch is not included in the course fee, although is available in the College cafeteria on a cash basis.
